has been recognized throughout the sailing world for its innovation
and unique functionality. It was at their facilities that the
ONETouch design was taken from concept to reality.
 While
the metal version of their design has been licensed to others
for production; a totally new composite version of the ONETouch
is manufactured directly by Dax Labs and employs the fully matured

THE ONE TOUCH STORY
Background & Development  In
the spring of 2003, Don Steiner was tacking in close quarters
when his locking winch handle jammed. The handle was of the old
‘square-plate’ locking style prone to such jamming,
usually so at the most inopportune times. The handle could not
be repaired on board and was taken ashore.
Once apart on the work bench, the handle revealed its fundamentally
flawed design. Don realized that even after repairs, it was just
a matter of time until the rotating square plate mechanism would
jam again. He could not help but feel there must be a better solution
to this most common of sailing gear problems. Shortly thereafter,
the foundation of the ONETouch design began to take shape.
Over the next year, the ONETouch was taken from concept to reality.
Prototypes were made, tested, refined, and made again. Fourteen
iterations later, the final prototype was ready. During this time,
a patent for the design was applied for, processed, and in due
course awarded.
Several major manufactures were approached to produce the OneTouch.
Ultimately an agreement was made with Lewmar, Ltd., to produce
the design in metal. Dax Labs, LLC, took on the challenge of making
the OneTouch composite handle a reality. That challenge has now
been met.
