Many masts on boats built through the 70's and early 80"s came with mast pad eyes or ring cars for attachment on the spinnaker pole. These were fixed eyes or sliding cars with relatively small ring diameters. Some were as small as 1.000" I.D.

Forespar® "ULTRA" series end fittings (both the UXP and UTR style) require a minimum of 1 1/2" I.D. rings for proper function. If the ends are used on rings less then 1 1/2" I.D. the jaws ("beak") can bind-up in the rings and with the leverage of an 8' pole, (or longer!) the ends will fail.

This is not the fault of the end fittings. A proper sized ring will avoid this and allow the ends to freely move under spinnaker pole compression loads as needed.

Forespar® offers S/S mast pad eyes (PE-3-SF & PE-3-SC) and sliding ring cars (RC-125) with 1.625" I.D. rings for use with our end fittings. Lesser diameter rings should be changed-out to avoid potential failure to ends due to insufficient clearance. Forespar® will not warrant ends that fail due to improperlysized rings on the mast.


Ring Style Mast Car- RC 125

The ring and body of this unusually strong car is investment cast of 17-4 heat treated stainless steel to provide a superior product. Compatible with our "UXP" and "UTR" pole end fittings. Ring I.D. is 1.625".

The RC-125 is for 1.250" T-track and has a screw lock-pin, our special UHMW polyethylene slides inserts and provisions for up and down shackles.

RC-125 car is NOT recommended for use with poles that are to be stored vertically up the mast.


Toggle Cars1.250" & 1.500" (For offshore poles)

This car slide is offered both in stainless steel and hard coat anodized extruded aluminum. The toggle-pin is stainless steel in each case. Toggle assemblies available seperately see replacement parts page. Our strong 1.500" toggle spinnaker car is for boats approx. 50' to 70' LOA. Fits the standard Schaefer 41-12 1.500" track. Low friction movement due to UHMW inserts.

For poles with Forespar TS & UTS End fittings, and using a Forespar® T-125-S CAR, 3" is substracted when given a "J" dimension to establish pole length.

To allow vertical storage on the mast of larger poles up to 6" diameter, specify our long toggle option. Our standard toggle works with poles to 4.500" diameter.
