| LAKE TEXOMA, Denison, TX -- It was one of the windiest Lakefest regattas in history with winds blowing 20 to 25 knots (gusting 30) for the five-race series. It was hard sailing, but sails and sailboats were in their element.
For Dave & Matt Ramsey, it was like a Cinderella story. Three years ago they bought an old Beneteau IOR One Toner and named her GODSPEED. A fractionally rigged IOR boat with inline spreaders is not easy to sail or tune, which they found out after a jibe brought the mast down.
After that disaster, they contacted Mauri Pro Sailing to help them getting the boat back in racing condition for Lakefest. A new mast, running and standing rigging went in as well as a new set of Carbo / Kevlar ails.
“We scheduled several days of tuning, sail testing and coaching, which paid off big time,” said Juan Mauri. GODSPEED went from a sailboat without sails and mast to been the winner of Lakefest. “With the crew on the rail, the helm was neutral and the boat was easy to drive; we were higher and faster than the boats in our class,” said Dave and Matt.
This was not an easy win, Lake Texoma supports a healthy Class A. Other boats included a Beneteau 42s7, a Beneteau 40.7, two J/109s, a J/35 and Henderson 30.
