Juan Mauri

Juan is a passionate sailor, always looking forward to talk with other sailors about sail trim, deck layouts, racing techniques and more. He is the President of Mauri Pro Sailing and active supporter of many US and international one design classes and sailing organizations.

Juan Mauri is a world-class one-design sailor and our racing guru. He has been a sail consultant since 1991 for UK Sailmakers and Doyle Sails. While living in South America, Juan won over 15 national titles in IMS, J-24 and Lasers. He represented his native country Peru in the Pan American Games and won the South American Match Racing Championships. In 1999, he moved to the United States. Since then, Juan Mauri finished 2nd in the US J-24 Nationals, 1st at "The Change of the Colors Regatta", and has won the 2000 and 2001 Hobie 33 North Americans and Houston NOOD. He also was the tactician onboard the 2000 SORC "Governors Trophy" winner for Top PHRF boat. Using the techniques he developed as the MPS Formula and the 1% approach to sailboat racing, Juan lead the team of the Cape Fear 38 to a 1st. in the North Carolina PHRF State Championship and 3rd. at Charleston Race Week. He was also tactician onboard Mystic Red, a Jenneau Sun Fast 37, winner of the 2003 Annual Regatta at Fort Worth Boat Club and trimmer / tactician onboard the IOR One Toner Godspeed winner of Lakefest 2004.

Juan's background in industrial design has helped him on the analysis of better sails, trimming techniques, sail hardware and deck efficiency. Juan is not only a creative sailor, but also a natural teacher. He is available to take any questions.
