Delrin, Aluminum and Ball Bearing Sheaves

Delrin Ball Bearing sheaves are used in line applications to reduce friction. Schaefer designed their Delrin ball bearing sheaves and inner races with curved surfaces to match the ball races. Delrin sheaves are injected molded with UV inhibitors and monitored molding cycles lending to a strong, UV resistant product.

Aluminum Universal Circuit sheaves (UC) are extremely low friction ball bearing sheaves accommodating both line and wire. High strength self-contained Delrin bearing package, and Nomex/Teflon self-lubricating bushing is used in all "UC" sheaves. Aluminum sheaves accommodate both line and wire, providing a chafe-free surface for line while giving full support to wire. Hardcoat anodized 6061-T6 aluminum offers superior strength and corrosion resistance.

Harken Self-Contained Sheaves

Self-contained sheaves are designed for sailors to use in custom applications. The Micro, Bullet and Big Bullet sheaves are Delrin® with Delrin® ball bearings. They are scored for rope. 16mm AirBlock® sheaves are Delrin® and feature stainless ball bearings that ride in a grooved race. Midrange sheaves come in either Delrin®, or aluminum for wire. Wire sheaves ride on high-load composite bearings. They are Hardkote-anodized aluminum with Teflon® impregnation.

Ball bearings in the 1 1/2 in. (38mm) and 2 in. (51mm) sheaves minimize friction. The 1 in. (25mm) wire sheave uses low-friction washers for this purpose. Two 160 sheaves make up the 161 dual sheave universal lead. Use this sheave to divert a line that must turn in either direction. Use ESP sheaves to handle high static loads from halyards and reef lines. Sheaves are carbon-black Delrin® for UV protection, and they turn on stainless steel spacers. Contained side load ball bearings allow sheaves to spin freely when loads are released.

Sheaves require a sideplate for the sideload balls to roll on.
