A bailer is a device used for removing water which has entered a boat. The device can be as simple as a container which can be filled manually and then emptied. Small dinghies such as the Optimist use hand bailers, while other larger dinghies like the Laser, Snipe, Lightning and 420 use self or automatic bailers. Some regulations require either or both as mandatory equipment.
