What to wear for racing days with Rooster?
We have loved Rooster Sailing Gear for a long time. Rooster Clothing is comfortable for almost every dinghy sailor, from the little Opti kids starting their passion to the professional Olympic 49er sailors looking for the gold glory.
Their quality and simplicity also make this brand one of the most reliable in the market. For instance, our Tech Team, full of dinghy competitive sailors in their early years, have made a list of the essentials to consider when entering the dinghy racing sphere. We made it with the experience of sailors who had used these items for championships worldwide in many different sailing classes. You will find comfort to perform in all the recommended products but the most important, safety and health, to cover you from top to bottom.
Visors:
A "must" nowadays due to the intensity of the UV rays. These lightweight visors will also keep your eyes protected from the sunlight without restringing your range of vision.
Life Jackets (for adults and youths):
A "must" for small boats, not only because of each-class rules but also due to safety. Rooster Life Jackets are designed for maximum comfort allowing good body movement. Rooster life jackets for adults are longer and thinner to be less bulky when worn. At the same time, for juniors, Rooster PFDs prioritizes buoyancy and provides a good fit for different body shapes, perfect for kids in their growing stage.
Rashguards (for both men and women):
Probably one of the best base layers due to its excellent thermal qualities. It is perfect to wear under your neoprene layers or on its own as a rash guard. We love to use it merely on summer days as it has a UV protection SPF40. It is what a dinghy sailor needs to sail freshly, comfortably, and without any sunburn at the end of the day.
Spray Tops:
A variety of colors, adjustable neck bungee, excellent water resistance, and an upgraded fleece lining for even more warmth and comfort in the harshest climates make the Rooster Aquafleece the top Sailing Jacket. Designed for those of us who love the soft agility but would like the added security of a semi-dry construction.
Hiking Pants and Hikers:
The multiple models offered by Rooster Hikers, give you the option to choose between: classic ¾ length hikers that protect your knees, hikers with fixed (sewn on) or adjustable/removable pads, or padded shorts and pants for situations where a bit of extra padding is needed. We like to have a pair of small pants for sunny and light wind days and a pair of ¾ or full-length hikers for heavier wind conditions. Always consider a pair of hiking pants if you plan to race in boats like RS Aero, Melges 14, Laser, or any other where hiking is vital to point and get the maximum speed.
Gloves:
Very important to have, especially in heavy wind conditions. Without a pair of these Rooster Sailing Gloves, forget about trimming the sail with more than 25 knots for 3 races per day. For us, the design with 2 fingers cut is the best to adjust ropes and lines without taking off the gloves. Also, they have double-layer top-quality abrasion-resistant material on all high load/stress areas for small diameter control lines and mainsheets and an excellent grip great for all helming duties.
Hiking Boots:
Maybe the wost part of the dinghy boats is hiking. Not only because of the effort you need to put into it but also because the straps will destroy your feet if you don't cover them with good boots. These Rooster Sailing boots are lightweight enough for you to keep the agility to jump from starboard to port side. They also offer protection combined with superior grip, combining extra padding and hiking security where you need it most.
Now you know it! If you want to wear cool stuff and perform like a pro, choose Rooster Sailing Gear at MAURIPRO!
