How does HARKEN VANG MASTER work?
Harken Vang-Masters use air pressure and are easily adjusted with a manual pump to provide extension force to hold the boom up without the use of mechanical springs, making them squeak-free. The boom vangs are made of 6061 T6 aluminum, so they are light, strong, and have hardcoat-anodized tubing and end fittings to reduce corrosion. Harken Vang Master comes in four-cylinder diameters with a menu of 120+ stock applications for everything from Moore 24s to Andrews 70s to compare with pin-to-pin measurements. Stainless steel mast and boom fittings and custom lengths are also available.
External purchase systems, build-out of Harken blocks, and complementary hardware provide easy adjustment. Buy with confidence; Harken makes the boom vangs easy to get, and MAURIPRO Sailing technical assistance helps you select the appropriate one for your boat or sailing style.
Before ordering one, please consider two important measurements:
- To determine your Vang-Master Boom Vang size, first, you need to determine your PCLC and PCLO (pin center length closed and pin center length open). To do this, the first measure the distance between vang pins with the boom pulled down. Then, push the boom up to the maximum desired height and measure the distance between vang pins again; this will give you the PCLO (pin center length open). You can now use our reference size guide to determine which Vang-Master size will fit best in your boat.
- Second, you need to select the purchase system. Standard purchase systems are available for each Vang-Master size with 4:1 or 6:11 mechanical advantage in single or double-ended configurations.
